CONSEQUENCES OF BEING IRRESPONSIBLE

the consequences of being irresponsible in handling life's affairs cause decay in your daily existence

“Neglect starts off as an infection then it becomes a disease.” – Jim Rohn.

We all have faced the consequences of being irresponsible about something in life.  I’ve lost out on thousands of dollars in income tax refunds because I filed years too late.  In between jobs, I’ve lost out on unemployment insurance because I took too long to claim those benefits.  Months went by where I didn’t pay the minimum on my electric bill which led to it being shut off.  I even got into a car accident taking an illegal shortcut because I was running late to work.

All of these situations are ridiculous and could’ve been easily avoided.  The consequences of being irresponsible often have little to do with avoiding responsibility but rather, being negligent and undisciplined.

How About You?

What have you let go on for too long?  Is it an appointment to get you teeth cleaned that once completed will reveal that you have a number of cavities?  Perhaps its the annual physical that you put off year after year that will show you have health issues hat must be addressed immediately.  What about that conversation that you’ve been meaning to have with a loved one or an old friend that becomes impossible when they unexpectedly precede you in death?

There’s no time like the present to decide to be a do it now person.  Avoid the traps of procrastination, hesitation and indifference.

3 Hedges Against The Consequences of Being Irresponsible.

There are three things that I believe can help us to be resistant to the damaging effects of neglect:

  1. Cleanup
  2. Maintenance
  3. Preparation

Cleanup – Can you eliminate a small debt?  Do you need to get some paperwork at home organized?  Evaluate anything that you can knock out in 15 minutes or less and do it.

Maintenance – Can you do a body weight exercise routine to keep yourself in decent shape?  Don’t let too much time go by without performing it.

Preparation – What do you need to plan out ahead of time?  Is there a goal that you would like to reach that you just can’t let pass you by for another year?  Stop getting ready to get ready!

Don’t be a victim of the consequences of being irresponsible.  Prevention is the best cure.
